Alexander McQueen Fall Winter 1996 “Dante” Collection double-layered floral tank top. The eighth runway collection by the designer and the first of his highly stylized, self art-directed shows, the collection was inspired by Dante Alighieri and his book The Divine Comedy. The collection went on to become one of McQueen’s most successful to that point and led to his appointment as creative director of Givenchy. The subversive floral design and layered construction are characteristic of the collection.
